Exporting a Pedigree
Once you have completed a pedigree in the PhenoTips pedigree editor, you can export the file. To quickly export your pedigree as a PDF, enter the family record that contains the pedigree you wish to download. Hover over “More actions” on the far right of the record header (beside “Delete”) and select “Export PDF”. Your pedigree will automatically download as a PDF without giving you customization options.
You can quickly export your pedigree as an image (PNG) or scalable image (SVG) in the Pedigree section of a family record, or the Family history and pedigree section of a patient record. Hover over the download icon below the edit (pencil) icon to the right of your pedigree’s thumbnail and select your desired format. Your pedigree will open in another window of your browser as a PNG or SVG, allowing you to save the page or image to your computer.
To export your pedigree with greater customization, in JSON, PED, BOADICEA, CanRisk or image format, enter the pedigree editor. While in the pedigree editor, click the “Export” button located in the top toolbar menu between the “Save” and “Close” buttons.
When you click on “Export”, you’ll be given the choice to export in the following formats:
- PhenoTips JSON
- PED Format
- BOADICEA Format
- CanRisk
- Simple JSON (deprecated)
- Image
PhenoTips JSON
Select this option if you wish to export all of the information stored in the PhenoTips pedigree editor without any data loss. You can import this file into another PhenoTips instance.
Select PhenoTips JSON as format, and choose one of the following data options:
- All data — no information will be altered or excluded
- Remove personal information (age, identifier, and name if you're using PhenoTips Enterprise)
- Remove personal information and free-form comments
PED Format
Select this option if you wish to import the pedigree into other pedigree systems that accept PED files. A PED file will store information about the structure of the family, sex of the individuals, the identifiers of the proband and parents, and basic information on whether individuals are affected or not, but NOT what they are affected with. Keep in mind that PED files are simple, so what you import into your system of choice from the PED file will lack the depth of information present in the PhenoTips pedigree editor.
Select PED as format, and choose one of the following data options:
- Use patient identifier, if available
- Generate numeric labels instead of personal identifiers
- Use names, if available (only functional in PhenoTips Enterprise)
Lastly select all phenotypes, genotypes, cancers and/or OMIM disorders, out of those present in the family, that need to be marked in the affected (last) column of the PED file. These will all appear as “affected”, rather than as specific terms/afflictions, in the output.
BOADICEA
Select this option if you wish to import the pedigree into BOADICEA only.
Select BOADICEA as format, and choose one of the following options:
- Use patient identifier, if available
- Generate numeric labels instead of personal identifiers
CanRisk
Select this option if you wish to import the pedigree into CanRisk only.
Simple JSON (deprecated)
Select this option if you wish to export information stored in the PhenoTips pedigree editor in a simplified, deprecated JSON format. You can import this file into an instance that supports JSON files.
Select Simple JSON (deprecated) as format, and choose one of the following data options:
- All data — no information will be altered or excluded
- Remove personal information (age, identifier, and name if you're using PhenoTips Enterprise)
- Remove personal information and free-form comments
Image
Select this option if you wish to save an image of the pedigree on your computer, either in PNG or SVG formats. You can also choose to include the legend in the image, indicated by checking the "Include legend" checkmark beside the "Image" option.
Select Image as format and choose one of the following data options:
- All data — no information will be altered or excluded
- Remove personal information (age, identifier, and name if you're using PhenoTips Enterprise)
- Remove personal information and free-form comments
